At Children’s House Montessori School, we foster inner discipline—self-control that develops naturally through purposeful work, respect for others, and care for the classroom environment. Our Montessori approach encourages freedom of movement and freedom within limits. Some children thrive in different educational environments, and we work closely with families when behavioral concerns arise.
When behavioral redirection is needed, we follow these positive guidance practices:
• Ground rules are clearly stated on each child’s first day and reinforced consistently.
• Inappropriate behavior is calmly redirected by a teacher or aide.
• A child who is not in control may be invited to take a short break away from classroom activity to reflect and reset.
• We encourage problem-solving, reflection, and age-appropriate discussions about choices.
• Continued disruptive behavior may result in short-term removal from the group with adult supervision.
• Families will be contacted to discuss behavioral patterns and collaborate on strategies.
• If needed, a parent may be asked to pick up their child immediately, followed by a family conference.
• In rare cases where persistent behavior challenges arise, we may recommend an alternate learning environment better suited to the child’s needs.
**Biting Policy:** Biting is developmentally normal among toddlers and is not considered intentional at this age. We maintain vigilant supervision and complete incident reports for any bite that leaves a mark. Parents of both children are informed. If older children bite intentionally, the above guidance policy will be followed.
