Spring Cleanup - Saturday, April 18th, 2009

Every year we like to take the time to do some spring cleaning around the school.  The staff and students really appreciate and enjoy our help.  This year we have playground equipment that needs mending,  and/or painting.  There are plants that need planting and grounds that need cleaning, as well as other things.  Please join us. It’s a great way to get to know other parents and staff members and an awesome way to show our support to our little ones. Donuts, juice and coffee will be served.

What to bring with you….

  • your indoor/outdoor tools
  • spray paint (if you have any)
  • outdoor trash bags
  • anything else that you think may be useful

If you have access to any of these items they would be much appreciated.

  • Pressure washer
  • leaf blower
  • rakes
  • paint brushes
  • spray paint
  • a ladder
  • saws

If you have any extra potted plants of any type including vegetable, or children’s gardening tools, the teachers could use them to let the students garden.

If you can’t make it, but would like to donate the use of any of the above items, contact Kim at 804-6890.  In case of rain, please check the web-site, www.chmlr.org for a reschedule date.  We appreciate all you do.

We need volunteers for the Easter Egg hunt!

CHM Parents, please please help us with the Easter Egg Hunt tomorrow if you can. Most importantly, we need help putting the eggs out — if you can come early - say 10:15 or so, and help us do that, that’s a huge help! Second, we could use a couple of grillers to grill the hot dogs. And last, we may need some help cleaning up. Please help in any way that you can, and thanks so much in advance! We hope to see you and your families tomorrow!!!

If you can volunteer, respond to Dana at dmlandrum@mac.com.

The Silent Auction was a huge success!

If you attended the Silent Auction, you probably had a wonderful time.  The planning committee, coordinated by Jennifer Davis and Mary Hall and consisting of Amy Duzan, Pearl Rodgers, Dede Lowe and Nancy Hall, did an outstanding job of organizing the event.  Some parents have already given feedback and said they experienced a sense of community throughout the evening.  Some have even suggested that we do something again that pulls everyone together for food, drink and fun.  So, kudos to you, planning committee, you guys provided a very enjoyable evening!

A large part of the success is also due, in part, to you, the parents. There were so many items to bid on!  If it weren’t for your willingness to find items to donate and then bid on, we would not have raised the money that we did.  Our total proceeds were $3,344!  Wow, kudos to you, CHMS parents!

Between now and our January meeting, we are compiling a list of ideas of things we would like to focus on purchasing for the school.  So far some ideas are: First, sending teachers to training classes; Second, classroom supplies (lesson materials and the like); Third, maybe some additional things for the classrooms … plants, animals, curtains, rugs, etc.  Please put some thought into it and send your ideas to myself or one of the other officers.  You can find our contact information on the website, www.chmlr.org.

Again, thank you planning committee and other parents. We should all be proud and excited for the success of the auction and what we can do for the school with the proceeds.

We hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season.

Book Fair November 11 & 12

Stop by the Scholastic book fair between 2:30 and 5:30 next Tuesday and Wednesday. The flyer placed in your child’s folder is just a small sampling of the books that will be available… come by to check out the complete selection. If you visit on Tuesday and buy some books, your name will be entered in a drawing to win $100 in free books (redeemable on Wednesday)! The more books we buy, the more free books our teachers will get to select for their classrooms (they will get to spend anywhere between 40% and 60% of total sales).

Click here (http://bookfairs.scholastic.com/bookfairs/cptoolkit/publish/chmlr) to visit our school’s book fair website.
